My First Milestone: 50 Followers!

Heya, everyone! How are all y’all doing out in Internet Land? Well, I’m doing just fine. But I have an announcement, which I know you can tell just by reading the title of this post.

Today I reached 50 followers. I couldn’t have done it without any of you guys, so a huge thank you to all of you! I’m planning a giveaway once I reach 100 followers, and again every 100 followers. If you’d like me to host the giveaway quickly, please, pretty please, help me get to 100 followers! Thank you!

Also, a few updates that are nail related.

1) I ordered six new polishes from Diamond Cosmetics, and two of them are the newest colors — Concrete Jungle and Starry Night.

2) It’s been a week since I started my Biotin regimen, and already I can tell a bit of difference in nail growth. I can tell more difference, however, in nail strength.

3) Instead of getting three of the OPI’s, I’m planning on getting some of the newest Claire’s polishes, and a new camera. I’ve been needing one for quite a while, so I hope that I can get an even better one with more capability to focus inside as well as outside in direct sunlight.

My Introduction to BB Couture

Hello my lovely peeps! What’s up! SilverDiva here with the BB Couture post I promised you yesterday. Without further ado… here goes the story.

On Sunday, I ordered four lovely beauties from BB Couture. I was expecting them on Thursday, but instead I got an email from Kim saying that the order had been shipped. Well, yesterday I waited close to my mailbox to see if I had any mail since I was expecting another package. I was so happy when I opened my mailbox to see that I got one of the two keys again.

So, imagine my complete happiness when I got my package out of the locker, then went back to my apartment. I opened the package, and there they were — my four BB Couture beauties. They cost me $9 apiece with a $9.32 shipping charge.

Anyway, here are my four beauties. Check out the swatches below.

BB Couture Bassins Bleu

Bassins Bleu

Bassins Bleu is one of the six colors from BB Couture’s Hands of Hope collection. When you buy any color from this set, ¼ of the amount you pay goes to the Salvation Army to help them assist the people of Haiti who have suffered from this earthquake. Anyway, Bassins Bleu is what looks like a vibrant mint green creme to me. I had a few problems with the application, mainly because I was in a hurry to swatch at the time. This was three coats, and this morning I put a coat of Poshe to try and get it back to its shine state.

Check out Bassins Bleu mattified…

Bassins Bleu Matte

Bassins Bleu Matte

I decided I wanted to mattify it yesterday, so I put on a coat of China Glaze Matte Magic over it. I must say, either matte or shiny, I absolutely love Bassins Bleu, even with its application issues.

BB Couture Dragon's Breath

Dragon's Breath

Dragon’s Breath is from BB Couture’s fairy tale collection. It’s a wine-purple jelly base loaded with silver, red, and a bit of blue glitter. This was four coats.

BB Couture Kelly's Green

Kelly's Green

Kelly’s Green is from the Vampy Varnish Collection, which is a collaborative effort from Kelly of Vampy Varnish and BB Couture. It’s an avocado green base loaded with gold, green, and flecks of black microglitter, though you can’t see the black very well. This looks quite textured rather than shimmery though. Kelly’s Green was three coats.

BB Couture Zuma Wave Rider

Zuma Wave Rider

Zuma Wave Rider was one of the colors I’d been lemming for a long time now. I don’t know which collection (if any) it came from, but I’m not too sure I care either at this point. Zuma Wave Rider is a bright, pastel-like periwinkle blue creme with very subtle blue shimmer that gives it a kind of glowy appearance. I had a little bit of patience, so I did my best to slow down my application and give it time to dry nicely and even out. Well, it paid off because this was three even coats with no streakage, draggage, or lumps.

On the whole, the formula was nice. I have to take some time with Bassins Bleu to make sure it goes on evenly with no issues (I usually have some pretty hard-core issues with pastel cremes not going on evenly at all, and it doesn’t even matter the brand — I could have as much trouble with an OPI pastel as I could with a Wet ‘n Wild one), but other than that it was great. Zuma Wave Rider marked the first pastel creme for me that didn’t give me fits during application. Dragon’s Breath was four coats — I’m sure you could get away with two thick coats or three average coats — but I did four because I wanted to maximize the impact.

Have any of you ladies tried BB Couture, and what are your experiences with them? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Love, light, and peace to all of you, and I’ll be back with my Color of the Week post shortly.

Swatches from My Dollar Tree Haul

Hello my pretties! SilverDiva here with another one for you. Today I’m presenting to you some swatches of some very old, discontinued polish that I bought at the Dollar Tree yesterday for just $1 apiece. With tax, it came to $9.63 for nine bottles of polish. Eight of them were from the old Maybelline Express line (before 2005), and one from Sally Hansen’s old Hard As Nails line.

Check out the swatches below.

Maybelline Express Finish Blackened Teal

Blackened Teal

Blackened Teal is just like its name — it’s a very dark teal base loaded with teal shimmer. This was two perfect coats.

Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Edgy

Edgy

Edgy is a muted, murky green-gray creme with a hint of brown in it. Application was great, except I just couldn’t get used to the applicator’s long handle and long wand — both were longer than I’m used to. This was three coats.

Maybelline Express Finish Green So Sheen

Green So Sheen

Green So Sheen is a soft, avacado-type green loaded with green (and maybe gold) shimmer. This was one of my problem children because the formula was so thick and gloopy, and I didn’t really have the time to smooth out the streaks to make it even. This was three coats, but could’ve used another one.

Maybelline Express Finish Khaki Fringe

Khaki Fringe

Khaki Fringe is an olive green frost base loaded with gold shimmer. For some reason, I think this reminds me of BB Couture Iced Olive. Except that this one came well before that, so I think Maybelline was ahead of its time thinking of this color. This was three coats.

Maybelline Express Finish Lemon Water

Lemon Water

Lemon Water is a clear base with yellow tint. In my bottle some of the coloring seems to have dried up so I’m left with the clear part to paint on my nails. The yellow tint is only apparent when you remove it. This was three coats.

Maybelline Express Finish Matte Blue

Matte Blue

Matte Blue is a light, powdery periwinkle blue matte. I had a few streaks here and there, but not entirely too bad. This was three coats.

Maybelline Express Finish Matte Brownie

Matte Brownie

Matte Brownie is a perfect neutral, ‘brownie’ brown matte loaded with gold or bronzy shimmer. This was the matte that applied the best for me. Matte Brownie was three coats.

Maybelline Express Finish Matte Violet

Matte Violet

Matte Violet is a light purple base with a bit of blue flash, rolled into a matte formula. I have to say that this was the biggest problem child right here — three coats and there’s still lumping and streaking.

Maybelline Express Finish Tasseled Taupe

Tasseled Taupe

Tasseled Taupe is a darkened gray-brown taupe base loaded with gold shimmer that’s more apparent in the bottle. This was three coats.

The formula on two of these colors gave me a hell of a time trying to apply these, and I felt like I could’ve used an extra coat to smooth them out. These were Green So Sheen and Matte Violet. Most of these applied nicely and were perfectly opaque with three coats (except for Lemon Water), and Blackened Teal was the one that applied nicely and was perfectly opaque with just two coats. The dry time was excellent like I expect all fast-drys to be. I haven’t worn any of these yet, so I can’t tell you about their staying power.

Like I said at the start, I found these at my Dollar Tree yesterday and picked them up then. However, I originally found them on Tuesday, but I hadn’t picked them up. I’m almost always complaining that the stores in my area don’t get anything good, but now I’ll have to eat my words. Here’s why.

1) At my Regis, the lady working there at the time said they didn’t yet have the OPI Hong Kong collection but that they were expecting it on Tuesday (this coming Tuesday). In the meantime, they did have the little three-pack minis containing Red My Fortune Cookie, Suzi Says Feng Shui, and Dim Sum Plum along with a topcoat.

2) I checked out Claire’s for their nail polishes. And believe it or not, even though my Claire’s doesn’t have all the new glittery polishes, they do have the ones that appeal to me the most. They also have Dream Catcher and a couple of mattes that I’ll have to peruse.

3) I hadn’t been to the Dollar Tree in quite a while simply because nothing there (especially nail polishes) ever appealed to me. So on Tuesday, I went to the Dollar Tree and I saw the goodies from Maybelline and Sally Hansen (old, old goodies) that a lot of the nail polish blogging community has been blogging about. And man, let me tell you, I got excited.

Okay, so let me stop my rambling now. I’m willing to bet that I made these old colors look quite fugly with my pics so I am sorry about that. Anyway, what do you gals think of these colors? Like them or not? Do you international ladies have a version of a dollar store that carries these covetable dusties or anything like them? I’d love to hear your thoughts. With that, SilverDiva signing off for the time being saying love, light, and peace to all of you!

My next post will be on the four BB Couture’s that I ordered on Sunday and finally got today. So stay tuned for that.

Flakies, Flakies, Flakies! Nfu Oh #053

Well, I’ve saved what I consider to be the best for last. I’m presenting to you my latest acquisition — Nfu Oh #053. I bought this for $12.50 at FabulouStreet, the same place I got my #036.

Yesterday I checked my mail, and I got one of the five keys for bigger packages that just won’t fit in the mailbox. Well, imagine my happiness when I opened the locker! Inside was my package from FabulouStreet containing my Nfu Oh #053. I just had to swatch it before continuing to swatch my Wet ‘n Wild colors.

Anyway, check out the swatches. I had to take as many angles of this beauty as possible, but even that couldn’t help because I just couldn’t get the flakies captured perfectly. So I apologize for the pictures in advance.

Nfu Oh #053

#053

I was actually lemming for this color when I checked it out on FabulouStreet. This is a sheer, kind of a cornflower blue jelly loaded with blue shimmer and flakies that flash from orange to green in certain lights. Coverage was five coats because it’s so sheer — I think this’ll look so beautiful over black or other colors.

Check out another couple angles, one from the side view, and the best ‘macro’ view I could get with three fingers.

#53 side

#53 side

I tried to catch more of the flakies, but I guess you can’t see them too well. Either I overexposed them, or I suck at capturing flakies on camera.

#53 closeup

#53 closeup

The best macro shot I could get, and it sucks. Sorry about that, ladies.

Now check it out over black, which I decided to use as my mani.

#053 over Black

#053 over Black

I took this inside next to my daylight lamp. The flakies look darker but you can see more of the blue shimmer against the black. I guess I need a better camera, huh? Yeah, I think so.

And the side.

#53 over Black side

#53 over Black side

Still sucks, sorry. Anyway, this was two coats of #53 over three coats of Maybelline Express Finish 50 Seconds Onyx Rush, topped with one thick coat of Poshe topcoat.

I love the application of #053, except for the sheerness. However, sheerness is a non-issue when you use it for layering like I have.

Ladies, what do you think about flakies? Do you like them or not? Would you wear flakies? I’d love to hear your thoughts. With that, SilverDiva signing off for the time being. Love, light, and peace to all of you!

Whew! *wipes forehead*

New From Milani: Milani Neon

Hello my Divas, how are we all doing today? I’m doing great! Anyway, today I’m presenting to you a new ‘brand’ from Milani: Milani Neon. Milani also has their 3D holographics out along with the 3D holographic lip glosses and the nail art pens.

However, my Walgreen’s is no longer selling Milani products, so I’m stuck going to my K-Mart to get Milani products now. With that said, at my K-Mart they have the regular Milani line along with three of the four new products from Milani: the nail art pens, the 3D holographic lip glosses, and the new neon nail colors.

What I have to show you is one of their neon colors — there are eight in this collection. I bought the one in Rad Purple for $3.99, check out the swatches I prepared for this color.

Milani Neon Rad Purple

Rad Purple

This is Rad Purple taken outside in stronger sunlight just around 4 PM. It’s a neon purple creme that dries to a satiny finish that looks more like a jelly. What I love about it is its viscosity — you don’t ususally get this kind of a viscosity with a true neon. Rad Purple was four coats to adjust for evenness both in the color and in application.

Check out another picture of Rad Purple.

Rad Purple shade

Rad Purple shade

This one was taken in weaker sunlight, which is why I called it ’shade’. Doesn’t this look better? I think so.

What I Love About Milani Neon
•The viscosity of the formula. You don’t really get a thick viscosity with a true neon (as I iterated earlier in this post), but with this you do.
•The finish. It’s kind of a jelly and satin rolled into one the more coats you do.
•Very little annoying VNL. What bit of VNL that appears doesn’t really annoy me, and in the shade pic you can’t even see the nail line.

What I Hate About Milani Neon:
•The application. I guess it takes practice, but right now my application kinda sucked. I’ll have to practice to get the application better, and my patience more up there in order to have this level out.

I’ll show more of these Milani Neons as I purchase more, then swatch and upload them. There are more pros to this new brand than cons for me, so I think I’ll definitely be buying more.

What do you think of this new brand from Milani? Do you think you’d buy it or do you think you’d pass? I say take a chance on just one color and if you like it, get more. If not, you’re only out about $4. Just bear with me for one more post today, please? Because I’ve got the best for last. With that, love, light and peace to all of you!

New Wet ‘n Wild Wild Shine Colors

Hello my lovelies! Welcome again, SilverDiva here with a new post. This time I’m presenting to you ten of the eleven new Wet ‘n Wild Wild Shine nail colors.

I bought these at my K-Mart for $.99 each. For that price, you could stock up on all the Wet ‘n Wild Wild Shine colors. Anyway, check out all the swatches below.

Wet 'n Wild Wild Shine Blue Moon

Blue Moon

Blue Moon is a deep navy blue base loaded with teal shimmer that really pops out in the sun. However, I only managed to catch some of the shimmer on the nail. This was perfect in just two coats.

Wet 'n Wild Wild Shine Casting Call

Casting Call

Of the three cremes I bought, Casting Call was the best. It’s what I’d call a rosy caramel brown creme, leaning more toward warm pink but still looks more comfortable in the Bronzes and Browns gallery. I fell in love with it after looking at my nails out in the sun. Casting Call flowed perfectly onto the nail with no problems. It was perfect in three coats.

Wet 'n Wild Wild Shine Jezebel

Jezebel

Oh… you… JEZEBEL!!! (I always wanted to say that :D ) Anyway, Jezebel is a true red base loaded with red shimmer that really pops out in sunlight. I thought I was only going to like this color but not love it. However, my opinion changed — Jezebel got upgraded to LOVE after seeing it on my nails out in the sun. I think this’ll be one of my top reds. Jezebel was perfect in just two coats.

Wet 'n Wild Wild Shine Lady Luck

Lady Luck

Lady Luck is a neutral to cool pink base loaded with silvery shimmer that appears to be more blue in natural sunlight. For some reason, this color actually reminds me more of two of the brighter China Glaze Up & Away colors — Sugar High and/or Heli-Yum. Lady Luck was perfect in two coats.

Wet 'n Wild Wild Shine Metallica

Metallica

Metallica is a rather thin silver foil type color. It’s quite brush stroke-y, but with this kind of color I love how the brush strokes actually give Metallica its visual interest. This covered perfectly in three coats.

Wet 'n Wild Wild Shine Night Prowl

Night Prowl

Night Prowl is a black creme (or jelly) base loaded with purple glitter. I had a hard time capturing the glitters in the black base on the nail, but in real life the glitter really comes alive in the sun. Night Prowl was perfect in three coats.

Wet 'n Wild Wild Shine Rain Check

Rain Check

Rain Check is a beautiful light, bright periwinkle blue frost with a bit of lilac-purple undertones. This is another one where the brush strokes make the visual interest. It was perfect in four coats since the formula was a bit thin.

Wet 'n Wild Wild Shine Sunny Side Up

Sunny Side Up

Sunny Side Up is one of the two I had some trouble with. With this one, I had to wait a bit between coats to dry so I could do more even coats. Anyway, this is a bright, warm orange creme with a tinge of yellow undertones — I’d say this is comparable to Misa Speed of Life except that one seems to be just a tad cooler. (But only slightly) I can’t quite recall, but I think this one was four coats? I’m not entirely sure.

Wet 'n Wild Wild Shine Tickled Pink

Tickled Pink

Ugh! I think I had the worst luck with this one! Tickled Pink is a light pink creme with a quality that makes it icy rather than pastel. I really had to wrestle with the formula to even get it to flow onto the nail. This was four coats, and you can tell that the coatage is still uneven.

Wet 'n Wild Wild Shine Wild Card

Wild Card

Wild Card is what I’d almost call an opalescent since it has that quality. The base is somewhere between lilac and purple but with a slightly warm tinge. I had a bit of trouble getting the color intensity equally on all nails since some went on a bit heavier than others. This was four coats worth of Wild Card on all my nails, and believe me, the formula on this color makes it worth the four coats.

I think Wet ‘n Wild has created a winner with most of these colors. The only color that gave me a major headache was Tickled Pink. I think that formula was a bit too thick, and I wasn’t patient enough to wait for it to level itself out. Sunny Side Up gave me a few problems as well, but it was nothing compared to Tickled Pink, which I don’t think I’ll ever wear because of all those issues.

Other than that, here’s the breakdown of the coatage:

Those that covered perfectly in two coats: Blue Moon, Jezebel, and Lady Luck
Those that covered perfectly in three coats: Casting Call, Metallica, and Night Prowl
Those that covered perfectly in four coats: Rain Check and Wild Card

What do you ladies think of these colors? Would you buy them at your local drugstore/big box chain that carries Wet ‘n Wild, or would you pass? Personally, for $.99 each, I went for it and on the whole I wasn’t disappointed. With that, SilverDiva saying love, light, and peace to all of you — and I will have two more posts for you.

Color of the Day: OPI Ink

Hello my beauties! What’s up out there in Internet Land, and how are all y’alls doing? I’m great thus far, after taking ten Biotin pills in the past two days.

Ahem. Anyway, I have a swatch for you to check out. Remember I told you I’d post my current mani (at the time) yesterday? Well, I’m still wearing it. Check out the swatch below.

OPI Ink

OPI Ink

Here it is. I bought this color (along with OPI My Private Jet) back in May of 2007, back when OPI’s nail colors were still $7.50 at my Regis in the mall. OPI Ink (don’t you just love it when they combine their company name with the name of the polish?) is a deep navy base loaded with what appears to be pink (or purple) and blue shimmer that would appear to be more of a microglitter. It was perfect at two coats, but I decided to use a third coat just so I could practice clean-up around the nail bed sides and cuticle. This is three coats over a base of Poshe nail strengthening basecoat, topped with a coat of Poshe topcoat.

OPI Ink was part of the OPI Summer 2007 Night Brights collection which, I think, is now part of their core line-up (at least this color and the four versions of My Private Jet). I’m wishing now that I hadn’t used my bottle of My Private Jet as part of a franken (a failed one, mind you), or I’d still have that holo goodness in a charcoal base, and I’d be showing it to you. Oh well, I’ll order myself a bottle of Diamond Cosmetics Chainmail Charm to make up for that mistake.

Oi vei! I’ve rambled too much. Anyway, what do you think of this color? Is it something you’d be willing to splurge on (or try and find on EvilBay or a nail polish etailer) or would you pass? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this since this is the first time I’ve truly blogged about OPI Ink. With that, SilverDiva signing off for the time being. Love, light, and peace to all of you!

New Sinful Colors

Hello my lovelies! How are we doing today? Well, I’m doing pretty good. I’ve got some lovely new colors to show you from the Sinful line, so check out the swatches below.

Sinful All Mighty

All Mighty

All Mighty is a deep blue with teal undertones that has plenty of shimmer in it. I was only able to catch this under my lamp with the daylight bulb in it.

Sinful Happy Ending

Happy Ending

Happy Ending is a really bright yellow-green with a bit of gold shimmer. It’s a really show-stopping color and I’m glad I bought it. This has fast become one of my favorites.

Sinful Hot Spot

Hot Spot

Hot Spot is the second of the two Sinful colors that I took by the daylight lamp. It’s a nice navy blue with what looks like silver shimmer. Not show-stopping, but definitely a nice blue that could be worn by most.

Sinful Innocent

Innocent

Innocent is a bright yellow-green creme. I had a bit of trouble with this one because it’s so streaky. I thought that this would be a dupe or a close cousin to Pure Ice Wild Thing, but comparing this to that, Innocent is a much brighter, more yellow green.

Sinful Mint Apple

Mint Apple

Mint Apple is Sinful’s interpretation of the mint craze going on in the polish world. I wonder if the whole mint thing started because of the color of the mint leaf or the little mint candies. If the latter, then they did fine. If the former, they’re off the mark — a mint leaf is more vibrant, and darker than a mint candy. Anyway, Mint Apple is a soft, dusty mint loaded with shimmer.

Sinful Oasis

Oasis

I really don’t know if Oasis is one of the newer ones — somehow the name sounded familiar to me. But the color is great — a showstopping bright pink with a bit of shimmer. Unfortunately, I caught it out under gray skies so it doesn’t look so bright.

Sinful Rise and Shine

Rise and Shine

And last we have Rise and Shine. This is more the color of a mint leaf, though it’s still light. It reminds me of toothpaste gel but with silver shimmer in it.

Most of these took just three coats. Innocent was the one I had difficulties with — what you see was four coats and there’s still streakage, although I really tried to even it out.

What do you ladies think of these new offerings by Sinful? Do you think you’d rush for them or do you think you’d pass? I’d love to hear your thoughts. With that, SilverDiva signing off for the time being. Tomorrow I’ll have a post on my current mani if the sun will shine long enough for me to get a great pic. Love, light, and peace to all of you!

New Stuffs for NLO

Hello my beauties! How are we all doing on this first day of February? Me, I’m doing all right — except I’m hungry.

Anyway, I’ve got a new haul. You’ll be seeing the swatches for the deets as fast as I can get them to you. You’ll also see a new set of pages in which I show the best nail colors for each ’season’. These colors won’t be the only colors you can wear — I certainly won’t stop you from fulfilling lemmings you already have, and other colors you love — but I think they are the building block colors for the Stash.

Yesterday I ordered my first four BB Couture colors — Bassins Bleu, Dragon’s Breath, Kelly’s Green, and Zuma Wave Rider — and I’m waiting on the update to my order. Hopefully I get them, and if so, then on Thursday. I also ordered my first Nfu Oh flakie, and I’m definitely getting that on Thursday.

This is basically an updated post, and the first post for February. With that, SilverDiva signing off for the time being. Love, light, and peace to all of you!

Color of the Week: Two More and a Nail Color Experiment

Hello my lovely ladies! How are we all doing this late morning? Well, I’m doing great, but then again not really. I’ll elaborate more on that later. Today I’m showing you a color from China Glaze from their Fall 2009 Retro Diva collection. Check out the swatch below.

China Glaze Stroll

Stroll

This is one of my favorite colors in the Burgundies and Wines stash. It’s a burgundy jelly base loaded with what appears to be medium to large gold shimmer, almost glitter. Well, this picture seems to have captured the shimmers as more red than gold, although in the bottle you can still see some of the gold. This was three coats.

I picked this up at my Sally’s for $4.49 along with Stella when the regular price would be $5.99. That’s a cool $1.50 I saved by using their card.

Application was really quite nice. I had no problem with streakiness or dragging. Coverage was also quite nice — three coats with no VNL.

I have more bad news about my nails. I discovered, while in the shower last night, that my middle nail on my left hand was peeling. So rather than try and spare it, I finished the job. Now my middle nail is also a nub instead of a hack. And this morning I had to cut the rest of my nails even further down to accommodate, and be even so I could use treatment on all of them.

This leads me to an experiment I decided to try. I’d read on one of the displays at Walgreen’s that the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure line has five benefits in one. These are…

1) Base coat
2) Top coat
3) Strengthening treatment
4) Growth treatment
5) They said there was a fifth treatment but I forgot exactly what it was called. Maybe it’s the color itself.

Anyway, I decided to investigate with one of my two neutral colors I got at Walgreen’s in the BOGO Free sale (along with Calypso Blue and Midnight in NY). I only paid $14.98 for these four colors since I got two free. Check out the swatch below.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Commander in Chic

Commander in Chic

I picked this color because I wanted a neutral, but I didn’t want the mannequin hands look. The more I see it (the mannequin hands look), the more it gets on my nerves. Commander in Chic is a beautiful, perfect taupe creme — the perfect blend of gray and brown, no more and no less. This was two coats and I tried to be careful with the brush. You can’t really see it because I took it out in the sun, but there are a few little streaks in the polish. I definitely should’ve used a third coat for this one — and I will.

I’ll keep you posted on the life of this mani, along with my nail growth progress.

What do you think of these two polishes? Do you like them, or think they’re just meh? Do you think Sally Hansen has gotten a bit gimmicky with their Complete Salon Manicure advertising? I’d love to hear your thoughts. With that, SilverDiva signing off for the time being. Love, light, and peace to all of you!
